Today, New Balance releases the brand new MADE 1978 silhouette that draws inspiration from the classic 990 model that debuted in 1978 — hence the moniker. This fledgling low-top lifestyle sneaker was handcrafted in the Boston-based stalwart’s manufacturing facility in Norridgewock, Maine and is made up of only the finest textiles. The sleek shoe is fitted with a suede and leather upper alongside perforated details on the toe box and reflective “N” insignia. To top it off, the collar is done up in deconstructed leather. The most eye-catching attribute definitely goes to the Vibram® sole unit that was meticulously prepped and polished in the New Balance Brighton factory. In fact, the injection-molded sole is touted as lighter, more flexible, and even sturdier than other IMEVA soles.
“With the MADE 1978, we challenged ourselves with a new, innovative silhouette to offer the most relevant, modern style for our always-on-the-go consumer who appreciates the blend of function, fashion, sport and premium craftsmanship,” the company professed. “The MADE 1978 isn’t a conventional classic, it is the first MADE silhouette designed under our evolutionary concept, ‘Style of Your Life,’ and delivers versatility for the modern style seeker.”
